Spring is in the air! Preparing your home for Spring doesn’t have to break the bank. You don’t need to go out and buy all new furniture or do a massive renovation to achieve an improved fresh look for your home! Small tweaks can make a huge impact when it comes to giving the interior and exterior of your home a crisp and cohesive look just in time for the warmer days! Here are a few small, inexpensive and impactful tips to utilize when you decide to jump onto the Spring decor train!
1. Rearrange Your Wall Decor
This trick is very beneficial if you are working with a strict budget, it allows you to achieve a whole new fresh look without investing in new artwork or decor. Our biggest tip is to remove all of your wall decor and start from scratch, move different art into completely different rooms and have fun with it. You could spark some inspiration from a single piece of decor and build a whole new look around it without even trying!
Pro Tip: Mix framed art, mirrors and even hanging plants in one collection. This adds a more fun and interesting look to your space. It might be tough at first but it’s worth the work, because in the end you’ll have created a unique arrangement of art, resulting in a very striking display.
2. Swap Out Your Lampshades
Lighting is an excellent way to make a statement at home, and table lamps specifically can be integral to any well-styled vignette. This trick is the most inexpensive yet most effective home decor on the list for a Spring update. Swapping out your lamp shades can make a huge impact on the overall feel of your room. Changing the lampshade can be something as simple as adding a ribbon around the top and bottom of the lampshade, or asking your vendor for customized pieces (these tend to be more expensive).
Pro Tip: The color of your lampshade can also be altered (or switched) to reflect the time of year; during spring and summer, you could opt for pale, neutral hues, such as off-white and cream, then switch to darker colors when autumn arrives to achieve a warmer, more cocooning effect.
3. Introduce Some Greens
It’s scientifically proven that having plants around your home will improve your health, mood and your overall mental focus and performance. It also adds a delightful pop of color to any room. Even if you don’t consider yourself much of a plant enthusiast, there are plenty of indoor plants that are easy to care for, forgiving, and low-light tolerant. Some even do better in shadier spaces, if you can believe it. The benefits of bringing houseplants into your home are endless and take time to do your research to find the best ones that suit your atmosphere.
Pro Tip: Spin your plants around so they grow evenly and not lopsided, don’t fertilize your plants in the winter, dust your plants periodically and be sure to repot your overgrown plants – spring and summer are the best times for this.
4. Brighten Up Your Pillows
Throw pillow covers are our favorite home decor accessory because they’re the easiest way to update a space. There’s no need to update the pillows on your sofa or bed regularly, you can simply throw on a pillow cover and keep your pillow inserts to reduce waste. Mismatching different patterns and colors you would normally think wouldn’t go together is very in trend right now. They don’t necessarily have to be bold and blunt colors – the same concept can be used for neutral and more sophisticated tones. Adding a few accent pillows with a splash of color that flows with another in the room introduces plenty of visual interest and personality.
Pro Tip: When a pillow ensemble lacks cohesion, oftentimes the culprit is poor color flow. To solve the issue, look for pillows that are united by a key color.
5. Make a Plan of Action
For many people, January and February feel like the longest months because they typically represent the end of winter but hang on! Spring is right around the corner and springtime prep is a great way to make these last few days go by much faster. It’s never too early to “spring clean”…so put a Spring in your step and make a plan of action – you will thank yourself later.
Pro Tip: We do not recommend exerting yourself by attempting to organize your entire house in one day. Map out all your organization ideas room-by-room and complete each room day by day.
All-in-all, these are some incredibly simple ways to prepare your home for spring and we could list hundreds of tips. Not sure where to start? Rather than overwhelming yourself, write a list of what you want to tackle first. Focus on those warm and sunny days ahead and all of that hard work of preparing your home for entertaining, BBQ’s and making memories with friends and family, will have been worth it.
